Edge Hill University creating the Bacteria Robot Prototype

Edge Hill University are a regional partner for our Leaders Award competition which asks pupils aged 3-19 the question “If you were an engineer, what would you do?”. As part of this continued partnership, they have selected a pupil’s idea submitted to our Leaders Award competition to turn it into a working prototype over the 2024/2025 academic year.

Oscar’s original competition entry

Pupil designer Oscar, a pupil in Year 2, will see his engineering idea the ‘Bacteria Robot’ turned into a reality! His idea is a healthy Robot that helps people when they have bacteria and are ill! The design includes medicine, a special mask, scissors, a clock, and healthy food!

Introduction to the ProtoTeam

A team of three students selected Oscar’s design to build as part of their ‘Professional Practice in Engineering 2’ to develop their hard and soft skills.

Starting the prototype

Edge Hill University has taken Oscar’s outline design and focused on its medicine aspect to turn it into a Pill-Dispensing Robot prototype!

The robotic pill dispenser involved building a small robotic framework, about 10 cm in height, using a 3-D printer, then using an Arduino microprocessor to control the delivery of pills.

These images illustrate the various design and implementation stages, including pencil drawing, 3-D modelling and implementation.

We are looking forward to receiving the next update from the ProtoTeam!
