What do you get on a course? Primary Engineer courses have two aspects firstly a highly productive hands-on day and the resources that teachers are provided with to support the programme in the classroom. The objectives of the course are listed below however the best advice would be to bring a bag - as you will be leaving with an armful of models that you have made as part of the skills based design and make activity. You will also have a course booklet taking you through the day. There will also be examples of models that you can apply the techniques to later should you wish! Schools that are registered on the project also recieve three printed books, Teachers Curriculum Guide, Structures, Mechanisms, a courseware CD which contains the entire course, fpt's for the course, certificates for children taking part in the challenge, mark sheets, childrens work books (aligned to CREST*Investigators), guidance on writing submissions to the TLA, link to STEM Ambassadors and Young Engineers, the 12 page teachers workbook....and 12 interactive whiteboard lessons with software to run on any interactive white board. The objects of the courses are to:
Raise awareness of the primary curriculum Opportunities to apply mathematics and science to design and make projects
Skills based activities resulting in models being created and a range of techniques used (models are taken by teachers at the end of the course as exemplar materials)
Opportunities to engage with the interactive resources provided for schools to use in the classroom
Understanding the structure and operation of the National Challenge activities
Opportunities to engage with organisations to bring additional dimensions to the programme
