BLOODHOUND SSC Engineering Adventure
|
Primary Engineer worked with Harwood Meadows Primary School in Bolton on a project so secret not even the Head Teacher was allowed to know the details until the day before the launch! 13 children aged 8-10yrs, themselves equally unaware, attended the launch, with their class teacher Samantha Brown of the BLOODHOUND SSC Engineering Adventure at the Science Museum London on the 23th October 2008. This is the announcement of the team to build a vehicle to travel at 1000+mph! Read her article on the TES website
Andy Green said: “I’ve met graduate engineers who are adamant that our previous record was what inspired their career choice as youngsters: that sort of thing makes all the effort worthwhile. BLOODHOUND SSC will be so much faster and, we hope, will fire up every school kid about science and technology.

Primary Engineer is a complete Primary Liaison Project
where secondary design and technology teachers attend a 2 day hands-on
workshop in the key skills, knowledge and understanding to enable
them to work with and support Primary Teachers to deliver effective
Design and Technology education for pupils aged 4-11yrs. Workshops
initiate through secondary school hubs building strong departmental
links and ensuring effective Primary-Secondary transition. Challenge activities in line with the National Curriculum
celebrate teachers’ and pupils' work and lead to regional and
national finals held annually in November and December. See the Upcoming Events page or email for more information
Primary Engineer encourages the application of maths and science to design technology providing a practical cross-curricular approach which will help build an understanding of 'primary engineering'. |

Launch of the Engineering and Technology, Mathematics and Science Directories |
'Shape the Future' is a campaign to bring greater coherence to the promotion of STEM (science technology engineering and mathematics) initiatives in schools. As part of the campaign, three new Shape the Future directories have been launched at the BA Festival of Science. The three directories will detail initiatives of engineering and technology, science and mathematics initiatives for primary and secondary teachers. All schools will receive a copy of each directory if you would like more information please visit the STEM directories website. Visit the blog for photos from the event.

The recognition of teachers work is of great importance to Primary Engineer and to ensure that teachers gain the upmost possible from the project we are established National Partners with the General Teaching Councils TLA (Teacher Learning Academy. The TLA enables teachers to record the affects of CPD and the 'learning journey' they undertake and the effects on the both their own professional development and also the affect on the pupils. There is substantial guidance given as part of the project and information can be found on the courseware CD. For more information |
