Scientists – attendants and lecturers at the solar energy and artificial photosynthesis lectures: Sir Harry Kroto – Nobel Prize winner for discovery of C60 - Buckminster Fullerene, Julian Whitelegge – Formally a marine biologist, professor of chemistry specialising in proteomics in photosynthesis, Jan Anderson – Formally a teacher in New Zealand, now carries out scientific research in the field of photosynthesis, introduced molecular organisation into the field. Wolfgang Lubitz – Started as an organic chemist, then physical organic chemist, now is Director of the bioinorganic chemistry institute at the Max Planck Society, also lecturer. William Rutherford PHD, works at a French Nuclear Institute, carries out scientific research related to artificial photosynthesis, lecturer. Gary Brundvig – artificial photosynthesis research scientist, lecturer. Chris Pickett – Trained as an electrochemist, moved on to protonated chemistry, devised the equation - e1/2 ox. = ES + βpl. Also lecturer. David Officer – Organic chemist, works with the concept of molecular logic devices. Lecturer. Jim Grätzel – biochemist specifically interested in proteins and chloroplasts, Head of plant biology at Berkley where he investigates photosynthesis. Michael Grätzel – Inventor of the solar cell, lecturer. Engineers and other areas: Darren Turner – British touring driver, currently races for Aston Martin, Brendan Connor – On the chair of Cenex which is committed to reducing carbon emissions in cars. Also was in the Navy where he learnt how to fly a helicopter. Thomas East – Oxford Cherwell valley college lecturer, lectures mainly in motor sport engineering. Julia Barfield – Accomplished architect, set up a business with her husband called “Marks Barfield” which designed the London Eye. Scott Philips – Electrics technician. Kay Negandra – civil engineer specialsing in sewage and water works – pipe lines. Involved in the 2012 Olympics. Won the British Expertise Individual of the Year 2006 award. Helped rebuild wastewater and sanitation pipes after the boxing day tsunami. Daniel Welsh – motor sports racer, currently involved formula Renault. Paul Veal – principle calibration engineer for prodrive. Develops and calibrates cars such as Aston Martin Vanquish. Sarah Pullen – Young Female Engineer of the Year.Erik Fairburn – Engineer and now founder of ecurie25 (e25) super car club. Dr Ian Pearson – Minister for science and innovation. |
